What you need to know

The Minnesota written knowledge test as a whole will consist of 40 multiple-choice questions based on the 2024 Minnesota Driver’s Manual. To pass the test, you’ll need to answer at least 32 of the questions correctly. When you’re ready to take your written knowledge test, you’ll need to provide proof of identity and state residency, take a vision test, and, if you’re a minor, show that you’ve completed a classroom driver’s education class and have signed up for a behind-the-wheel course. An important part of the test will be being able to identify road signs and demonstrating a knowledge of what information they convey or actions they require. Road signs include regulatory signs, traffic lights, turn signals, curb markings, and railroad crossings. This DVS practice test will focus on identifying road signage, just like questions you’ll see on your Minnesota written knowledge test. Each question will be based on an accompanying image.
